Open Question: Is there a IRS tax deadline?

My wife filed our taxes back in January and we still haven't received our federal tax refund because of a error when filing. We have called several times each month and its always the same answer we receive from them, "call back in a few weeks, no one has been assigned your case". it's getting so frustrating. My question, is there a deadline that the IRS has to have fix the problem and send out the refund? I thought 1-2 months was a lot of time but its been 6 months now. Thanks for any help.
